There are many opportunities for involvement in the celebration of the liturgy. The primary ministry of all who are gathered together is to be an active member of the assembly who participate in the prayers of worship and praise to our God. Below are some of the volunteer ministries available at OLV:
Lector: The lector proclaims the scripture and leads the General Intercessions at Sunday liturgies. He/she must have a deep love of scripture and the ability to proclaim it in a way that enables the assembly to hear and appreciate the readings. A Lector must be a fully initiated Catholic who desires to proclaim the Word of God.
Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion: The Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion assists with distributing Communion at Sunday Eucharist. An Extraordinary Minister of Communion must be a fully initiated Catholic with deep respect for the Eucharist and a desire to serve the community.
Youth Altar Servers: Youth Altar Servers (girls and boys, grades 4 through high school) assist the presider during liturgical celebrations.
Music: OLV's Music Ministry serves the parish by enriching our liturgical celebrations through music. If you are interested in joining the Music Ministry, contact our Music Director, Dr. Dennis Layendecker.
St. Vincent de Paul: Become part of a world-wide society, which in the U.S. alone has 140,000 members dedicated to putting their faith into action. SVdP does more than just hand out money to those who face evictions or to prevent the cut-off of electricity. Members provide systemic help by offering advice on balancing a budget, talking to the landlord or assisting with finding a job. We meet for about thirty minutes every three weeks after Mass.
